Another Home Away From Home

This week has been a good one.  The Leaves are changing and the air is getting cooler.  Stoked for winter to come!!!  I love the Seasons, but time goes way to quick.  I have no concept of time anymore i forget about how long i have left, i think its when i reached my half way mark that i just say over a year and leave it at that.  It's so weird.  I'm stoked to be here, lifes good.

Transfers are this week Elder Fontes and i are staying together!!  So stoked he's the man!  Pretty much our whole zone is changing companions.  Elder Thomas my 7 foot giant companion from a couple transfers ago is coming to be one of our District Leaders, that's gonna be fun!

Elder Fontes and I have a baptism coming up on the 25th.  His name is Justin, he's 11 years old.  One of the smartest 11 year olds ever.  He explained in detail about the whole story of Noah's Ark and talks about all these science facts. He's hilarious in lessons. He says the most random stuff.  We gotta be careful about what we say because he'll go off on all these crazy funny random tangents about science and mythology haha. We love His family. His mom is so sweet. and his younger sister is so cute. Last night we ate dinner at their house it was soooo goooodd. SO fun, a ton of laughs and craziness.
I love being able to teach families again. I love this family and it's so awesome.

I found 3 Families from Laie!!!  The Togiai's, Tofa's and Falevai's (Hope i spelt um right) We were at the grocery store and i saw a "Da Hui" sticker on a jeep and i freaked out haha.  They were definitely from Hawaii no mistake!  The sister got out of her car and i ran up to her and started talking to her.  She said her Husband is from Laie and went to Kahuku. NUTS. She invited us over for dinner and it was AWESOME!  TONS of Food and Tons of KIDS.  It felt like home. I was in heaven!!!  They were so nice and said whenever we need food or something to come over. They invited us to Thanksgiving and Christmas haha.  i love them!  So cool to find connections back to Laie everywhere i go!  Home is never far away.

I love my mission and i'm so happy to be here serving the Lord. The changes that are happening from within are so amazing. I want to do everything i can to be more converted to this wonderful gospel and serve for the rest of my life.

October 6, 2014 - a thought on something i learned during Conference

This week has flown by!  It was such a good week!!!!  One Tuesday we got to watch "Meet The Mormons."  It was sooooooo gooooood!!!!  It was so motivating and uplifting to see members of the church testifying of God and Jesus Christ not through words but with ACTIONS.  This Religion is supposed to be a Lived religion.  Not a spoken one.  And these amazing people are examples to me and how i want to pattern my life after.  God. Family.  Passion.  I have an important invitation to you.  Please take or invite everyone you can to see this movie.  The success of the first weekend it's in theaters determines how long it stays.  This movie will change the perspective those not of our faith, as well as those who are of our Faith who need to see what they are apart of.  They will see some of the TRUE examples of what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints believes in.

GO SEEE IT!!!

After The movie we had a Zone Training meeting.  Elder Fontes and I did a good job at motivating the zone.  It could have been the effects of the movie haha but everyone was pumped and inspired to DO WORK!. The training we had was energized and filled with the spirit.  I love being able to learn speaking skills and teaching skills with this wonderful calling.

What a GREAT General Conference we had this weekend.  All my questions were answered!  Its so amazing to see how inspired these Men and Women are to be so in tune with the Spirit, to touch the lives of millions with their words. One day i hope to be that worthy of such a blessing.  I just want to share some of my thoughts on one talk from this weekend.

Elder Robbins gave a bold talk.  His question got me thinking, "Which way do you face".  He mentioned courage, in a way i never thought of.  Courage to turn away from temptation, to turn towards God and be an example of things that are righteous.  Growing up this is something i've experienced.  When temptation comes it truly does take great courage to turn away.  There are many influences in life that pull us in every direction, being tossed to and fro, with EVERY wind of doctrine.

The book of James compliments and confirms some of the thoughts i had as i listened to Elder Robbins words.

James 1:6 & 8

       V. 6 "But let him ask in faith nothing wavering.  For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed"

       V. 8 "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

Elder Robbins emphasized the principal of serving 2 masters, whether you serve God or Satan, plain and simple.  Nothing wavering.

What anchors us to the path that leads back to our Father?

Our Savior Jesus Christ...

Plain and simple

As we do our best to strive to live like our Savior and make him the anchor in our lives we will never be carried by the waves of influence that surround us.

I am so grateful for a living Prophet and Apostles here on the earth today.

I have a strong testimony that we can receive personal revelation and answers from God's servants... The Prophets.

I love missionary work.

all is well

We Are Only Tools in the Hands of Our Lord

My Heart was filled with joy and the spirit this week.

Rigby is filled with miracles. I am so blessed to be able to be here in this special place.

Elder Fontes and I have had amazing things happen this week.

Karol got baptized and it was so sweet!  She's an older woman and all her friends came to support her.  The room was filled with sweet little old ladies. :)  Karol's uncle baptized her and Elder Fontes assisted them in the font. It was so wonderful to see Karol be baptized.  She had a tough life especially with the loss of her husband. She Denied missionaries for years and years till on rainy day she opened the door for the elders previously here. What changed were their glowing faces in the rain.  And now her life is changed for the better forever.  I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to teach her the rest of the lessons and to help make this a special day for her.

Now for the real miracle and a testimony of the Lord's timing.  The Christiansen Family (all non members of the church) are a very very special family.  They are some of the nicest people i have met.  You can just feel the love they have for one another.  All 3 siblings get along with one another and are good kids to their parents.  Their dad is hilarious and treats us like his kids teases us and jokes around with us (they said that's how he shows love), their mom is such a sweet heart and is so humble and loving.  An exceptional family. They have had missionaries teaching them for 8 years taught all the lessons and have been to church dozens of times, but the time wasn't right.  Until the night we met Ashley after standards night.  Ashley is active in young women's and would sit outside the temple dreaming that one day she could enter.  All were prepared just waiting.  As i explained in my last letter we invited her to be baptized and she said this Saturday Sep. 27th would be perfect. But... we had to ask her mom.  Candy her mom said they wanted all 3 kids to be baptized and they will talk about it as a family.  We received a text Monday evening from Candy saying that all 3 kids will be baptized on that Saturday.  Elder Fontes and i were speechless.  We just met this family a week ago and they want to be baptized, they fulfilled all the requirements and everything.  We didn't need to teach them a single lesson.  Their testimonies were strong and they answered the Baptismal questions with ease.

Following Karols baptism, 73 people showed up to support the Christiansen Family.  It was one of the most beautiful baptisms i have seen so far on my mission and i have seen a lot of amazing things.  Full support from the ward and those that became their friends through out the past 8 years.  Brian (20 yrs old) was baptized first, then Shane (15yrs) next, then Ashley (13yrs).  I had the opportunity to be a witness.  As i stood beside the font i could see the stairs going down into the font and Candy standing at the top watching her daughter be baptized. Sister Christiansen was at this moment in tears with the biggest smile on her face. I wish i could describe this sight better but i know that she probably felt the same way the Lord did looking down from heaven that day.  The baptism was focused on eternal families and tears all throughout the room.  You could just feel the love and the spirit so strong  It was so powerful.

I love the Christiansen family. Only knowing them for a week and already when i think about them my heart is filled with joy.  I know it won't be long untill their parents join them and they become an Eternal Family.

This is an amazing work.

I learned that us missionaries are only tools in the hands of our Lord.  We are only here to represent the Lord and teach people "how" to be guided to the right place at the right time.

But miracles only come from God and faith in our Savior.  Conversion comes through the Holy Ghost.

This Family was finally ready, completely and 100% ready in their hearts and in their minds.  After 8 years, this was when they were ready to let the fullness of the gospel into their lives.  God knew it, and saw that they were ready.  That's why he sent us to the Church building that night.  All we had to do was listen.

Missionaries are only there to help the process of conversion, to help with the technical side of learning how to receive an answer or to be his hands to set up baptisms.  We are nothing without the Spirit.  People are only converted by the power of God.

I love my mission and know that God is great.  He is a God of miracles even today.
"Mormon 9:19 And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles.

I love my mission. I love this marvelous work. i love Rigby. I love my companion.

1 YEAR!

Time flies when your in the service of your God,

I can't believe it's been a year already. This is going by way to fast. I know i'll wake up one morning in my bed back home and not even know where the time went. Right now i don't want that morning to come. i love being a missionary. I feel like i have learned everything i need to know, to know "How to be a Missionary" now it's time to use everything i've learned and will learn to the fullest, to labor till that morning comes.
This week was a week of miracles. Rigby is a Zone of miracles. I still love Rigby, its so peaceful and mellow. Driving through fields, trees, no one on the streets. it's calm. And the spirit is felt so strong here. The people are good and the water is clean. haha. i enjoy it here. :)

Elder Fontes and I have 3 miracle baptisms coming up. Karol, Casey, and Ashley. They are amazing. Karol is a wonderful woman who lost her husband and has found the Lord. Casey a single mother of 2 of the cutest twins. And Ashley one of the most humble 13 year olds i have ever met. 3 separate lives, but similarities in their faith in Christ. They motivate me to change. I try to do everything i can for them and their conversion. they matter to me.

It's amazing how, when you love someone you change for them. You change for good. Because you are ultimately changing for God. I find it interesting how you could meet someone for 5 minutes and love them. Love is a strong word. so how could one love someone they have just met? Maybe it's because we found one of our friends from the pre-mortal life, or just the knowledge that they are children of our Father in Heaven. What ever it is it's powerful.
I saw friend from the Laie 2nd ward this week. Brother Clements. I don't know if Idaho is just popular or if the world is even smaller in the church. I even met my friend Giddeon's sister in-laws parents. The Morgan's they had us over for dinner and we talked about hawaii the whole time.
It's kind of funny that even though Elder Fontes is from Brazil, peoples reactions are still the same when i say i'm from Hawaii. haha i guess people don't really know much about Brazil and it seems like everyone has been to Hawaii here. So they just get so excited about their experience. I find it a blessing to be able to bring those happy memories back and relate to people. The Lord has prepared the way for me.

Elder Fontes and I got to host and put together the missionary fireside last night in Idaho Falls. It turned out great! Fontes counted about 130 people. I got to conduct the meeting, I was nervous at first but after the first couple announcements i was comfortable speaking on the mic. It's so awesome that the mission teaches us so much. Especially getting out of your comfort zone when you have to speak to a lot of people.

           I love my mission.

I LOVE RIGBY

I AM STOKED ON LIFE RIGHT NOWW.

Rigby is so awesome!!! I absolutely love it here!!! Rigby is so different from Pocatello. Everyone here is so mellow and chill. Everyone is so loving and genuine. Its a very small town. Lots of farms and the houses are all far away from one another. SOOO different. The families are so nice and so supportive of missionary work. Everyone just seems so happy here.

The Rigby Zone is stacked with exceptional missionaries. There are 6 sets of sisters and 4 sets of Elders including Elder Fontes and I. The Sisters carry the whole zone. They are such awesome sisters! There is an Elder Keil in the zone, he said he has relatives in Laie. Most likely related to the Keils in Laie 2nd ward, garantee Uncle Magi and his family. Small world. All missionaries in the Zone are fun hard working missionaries i'm so excited to be here!!!

Elder Fontes is such an amazing missionary. I am so excited to serve with him. He's super chill but such a hard worker. We get along so well. He's super funny and we have a good time with the Zone. I hope i stay here for a long time. I hope to serve with him for a couple transfers. I just love it here! the Lord knows i need good companions to keep me in check haha i've always had the best of the best.

We have so much work here and i am so excited to work with families again. We have some amazing investigators here. It already feels like family.

We had our first miracle this week. One of our investigators, Karol's, baptismal date was on general conference weekend. We asked her to pray about moving her date closer in September. She didn't like it at first. The next time we went over She said...

"You know what, i've prayed once, twice, 5 times, and i haven't got and answer yet.... So i think God already gave me my answer and now i gotta make my own choices... Your on Buckos!" hahah

We were so stoked! She came to church yesterday and is progressing to her baptism on the 27th.

I am so so so excited to be here and to serve in Rigby.

transferrrrss

This has been such a crazy week! IM GETTING TRANSERED!!! :( i'm finally leaving Pocatello... being transferred up to RIGBY. Its pretty far up there I don't know much about it but that in the winter it gets cold, so that will be an adventure!

I'm pretty sad to leave poky i've spent a year here, it's home to me. Yesterday when we were baring our testimonies it felt like another farewell talk :( I made so many friends here and there are so many people that I call family, its sad to leave them. But I know the Lord has families and people in store that I am meant to meet. I'm gunna miss Elder Jones and all the missionaries here in Pocatello. I only know a few missionaries up north in Idaho falls but all my friends are here.

Although i'm leaving I am stoked for a fresh start and a new adventure! I met my new companion Elder Fontes at MLC this Friday! he's super cool. he's from Brazil, my second brown companion! haha We are already best friends! we sat next to each other at the meeting and talked about the Zone. We have some really great missionaries, i'm so excited to work with them and serve them! I'm excited for the Holidays and spending the major ones with Families I get to meet in Rigby. IT'S GUNNA BE FUN BEING IN THE SNOWWWW I can't wait for it to be packed with snow!!!!

I don't have my new address yet but this is the new mission address!

 135 S7th Ave. Pocatello ID 83201

This morning I became a true Idahoan. And Embraced my inner MOKE. Roman and Raul Barela took elder jones and I up the mountain to look for Deer Sheds ( Antlers ) so we hiked the mountains.  They taught us how to look for tracks and where the deer lay. I found one! It was cool. I loved being in the hills early in the morning with a nice breeze, it reminded me a little of home or my new home ;) I miss being out doors were ALWAYS indoors. so it was refreshing to be out in the open. I'm gunna miss the mountains I heard Rigby's flat.

This week we had so many blessing!  We were able to teach a bunch and find so many new investigators! We had 2 church tours! that's awesome for us!

We contacted a referral from my second area. Her name is Kaite she is sooo awesome! She has bin fellowshipped by her neighbors who I knew really well. Bishop Bybee and I went to go contact her on splits and she was so enthusiastic and let us in and talked with us for half an hour!  It was so awesome, we invited her to church and a church tour. She called us yesterday an hour before church and said she was there and we felt bad because church didn't start for an hour. She knew, She wanted a church tour before church so we were stoked! We gave her one and introduced her to some of the members in the ward. It was such an awesome Fast and Testimony meeting. She Loved It!

I am so excited for Elder Jones and all the upcoming success that him and his new companion will have.

What I learned from Elder Jones this Transfer:
I learned PERSISTANCE, he is very persistent and diligent. Once this guy totally told us that he wasn't interested and didn't want to meet with us but we convinced him to just learn a little bit more and so he ended up talking to us. We talked for a while and he was pretty interested at the end! so that was awesome!

I learned to WORK HARD. Just to keep working and working till its time to go home. He never liked being in the house and I caught that bugg too. I don't like being home so we're always out and about.

I learned to be BOLD. He is very Bold, and confident in what he says. I learned that the only way you can be bold and confident is by being Obedient. If you are obedient you have the spirit so what ever BOLD thing you say is inspired.

I learned a lot more but those are some of the attributes I really needed to learn I am so very grateful for Elder Jones and for all he's taught me.

I am so so so excited for this fresh start and excited to meet new people and new families in a very different small town area! I love missionary work and the eternal blessing that come from it!

Dis Week Bah....

YALLS & YALLS

This week was sweeeet. Elder Jones and I got to conduct Zone Conference. It was pretty fun! It was cool to work with President Brinkerhoff. We spoke in church yesterday. My talk was based off of this past April conference talk by Bishop Stevenson "Your 4 Minutes". One of my favorites! I definitely do not want to waste anymore time! Especially how fast time is going. This month ill hit my Year Mark. I remember when i was home and Caleb got to his year mark and now he's HOME!! holy cow. NUTS. I love my mission. Every single aspect of it. I am thankful for the Lord in giving me this opportunity to serve him.

I got to go on exchanges and meet some great people! James Odeary, he's awesome! His prayer sounded like a rap!  He's trying to quit drinking so we write Jesus Christ on his beers. haha he doesn't finish them and tries to run away when he see us coming. hahaha. He appreciates our help tho he knows he needs to quit.
We have been having success. Success in different ways. Success in ways that don't always seem like success. But we feel successful because we work hard. We're obedient. and we dont give up! we know that the Lord has something great in store for us :)

HEY HEY HEY GUESSS WHAAAAAATTTTT?!?!?!?

JAQUIE'S SISTER GOT BAPTIZED YESTERDAY IN LOGANNNNN WAAAHHOOOOOOO!!!!

Jaque said that her sister was sooo happy the whole time, and there were so many people there to support! what a blessing it is! they had to have it in the Logan tabernacle because there was so many people. She said her sister came out of the water laughing because she was so happy!

i am so so happy! Jaque is taking a D&C class at the institute and is loving her new ward! I am so happy for her! SHE'S THE BESTTTT!

I love love missionary work. We are finding a ton of people to teach! our good friend Mike is meeting with us again and he's awesome. I have always been worried about "Getting Baptisms" that i didn't find the joy in just teaching people about Christ. I now have that mindset. that no matter if our lessons cancel or we don't have much in baptisms or people not wanting to meet with us, just sharing the gospel makes me so happy.

Elder Jones and I are getting along so well. We pretty much read each others minds. Transfers are coming up and I hope we get to stay together. He has taught me so much and there is so much more to learn.

I read in Mosiah this morning for studies and i was moved by his humility. i want to echo the words of the great King Benjamin because i feel the same way "I had spent my days in your service, I do not desire to boast, for i been in the service of God."  This is Gods work. He is always in control. Miracles happen because of him. We are only servants. We are only messengers. But all the great things that happen, is because He loves every single one of his children.

I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve. I am forever indebted to my Father in Heaven for this wonderful blessing.

I love my mission. I love Idaho.
